Our Training Program

Beginners

- Initial fundamentals taught:
  - Grip and stance in batting.
  - Throwing and catching the ball.
  - Hand-eye coordination.
- Batting practice includes:

  - Batting stance.

  - Intro to Straight bat drives.
- Bowling practice involves:
  - No chucking.

  - One bounce.

  - Consistent Line & speed.

  - Decent release.

- Fielding practice involves:

  - Ability to pick the ball & throw at decent speed.
- Additional skills developed:
  - Importance of exercise.
  - Building stamina.
  - Building confidence.
- Players will participate in scheduled indoor sessions.

Note: No player evaluation required

Juniors

- Players should meet the beginner's criteria.
- Age group: 8 to 12 years.
- Advanced skill development:
  - Introduction to hard leather balls.
  - Playing on a regular 22-yard cricket pitch.
- Batting skills taught:
  - Master straight bat drives.
  - Master straight bat defense.
  - Intro to Spin (Leg / Off).
- Bowling skills taught:
  - Intro to Simple Length balls.
  - Accuracy on Bowling to Length area.

  - Consistent Line & speed to Length area.
- Fielding skills taught:
  - Fetching and throwing the ball.
  - Fielding Stance.
  - Catching Techniques.
- Learning cricketing rules and regulations.
- Emphasis on safety and teamwork.
- Players may participate in tournaments.

Note: Player evaluation is required

Intermediate

- Intermediate players consist of (advanced)    training.
- Age group: 13 to 15 years.

- Batting skills taught:
  - Master straight bat drives.
  - Master straight bat defense.
  - Ability to play Spin for Singles Intro to 2             Shots( Square / Pull).
- Bowling skills taught:
  - Mastering Length Bowling.
  - Intro Inswing, Outswing / Off Spin / Leg             Spin.

  - Accuracy on Bowling to Good Length area,         fuller, Spin Consistent Line & speed.
- Fielding skills taught:
  - Mastering Ball Pickup Technique (Fast Ball,      Slow Ball)
  - Watching Batsmen.
  - Walking in.

  - Slides. 

  - Reacting to Ball High Catches.

  - Keeping Techniques
- Learning game strategies and teamwork.
- Players will participate in tournaments.

Note: Player evaluation is required

Advance

- Age group: 15 years and above.

- Batting skills taught:
  - Master straight bat drives.
  - Master straight bat defense.
  - Master to play Spin.

  - Master 2 Shots( Square / Pull).

  - Intro to Stepping Out and playing Shots /           Singles.
- Bowling skills taught:
  - Intro to Shot Pitch, Yorker.
  - Intro Inswing, Outswing / Off Spin / Leg             Spin.

  - Accuracy on Bowling to Good Length area,         Fuller, Spin Consistent Line & speed.
- Fielding skills taught:
  - Master slides, throws
  - Mastering Catches.
  - Intro Dives.

  - Keeping Techniques
- Learning game strategies and teamwork.
- Coaches simulate match situations for          preparation.
- Players will participate in tournaments.

Elite

- Age group: 15 years and above.

- Batting skills taught:
  - Exploring all Shots and building confidence.
  - Identify Weaknesses and work on it
- Bowling skills taught:
  - Develop bowling variations and building             confidence.
  - Identify Weaknesses and work on them.
- Fielding skills taught:
  - Mastering Fielding.
  - High / Fast Catches, Boundary catches and        throwing.

- Exposure to physical and mental conditioning.
- Emphasis on identifying and developing key strengths.
- Specialization in specific areas.

Note: Player evaluation is required

Adults

  • Age Group: 19 years and above.

  • Batting Skills:

    • Mastering advanced shot selection, including sweeps, reverse sweeps, and power hitting.

    • Building consistency in stroke play under various match conditions.

    • Strategic planning to counter specific bowling styles and field placements.

    • Focus on rotating strike and scoring efficiently in pressure situations.

  • Bowling Skills:

    • Enhancing precision and control in executing advanced bowling variations, such as yorkers, slower balls, and bouncers.

    • Developing tactical approaches to outthink batsmen and adapt to match situations.

    • Improving stamina and maintaining effectiveness across extended spells.

  • Fielding Skills:

    • Specialized fielding drills focusing on agility, reaction time, and accuracy.

    • Advanced techniques for handling high-pressure catches, diving stops, and quick boundary throws.

    • Team-focused positioning and communication strategies during fielding setups.

  • Additional Training:

    • Intensive physical conditioning to build endurance, strength, and flexibility.

    • Mental conditioning to handle pressure, enhance focus, and build resilience.

    • Leadership training for on-field decision-making and team management.

    • Emphasis on identifying individual strengths and tailoring skill development accordingly.

  • Exposure:

    • Regular match simulations to develop real-game awareness and adaptability.

    • Opportunities to specialize in key areas like wicket-keeping, spin bowling, or power-hitting.

The Washington Cricket Academy (WCA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to bringing power and awareness of cricket directly to D.C. Metro area cities. WCA is creating the necessary platform for young cricketers (age 6-18) to learn and play cricket professionally.

​

This organization coordinates events that teach kids how to improve skills so that they can maximize their public exposure. Since WCA’s inception in 2016 WCA has enrolled, coached, and progressed  200+ kids in the program across the age groups 6-16. WCA’s mentorship to the community kids has enabled them to participate in 10+  tournaments across the United States and Internationally.
